Denim Day originated with a 1992 case where the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction after reasoning that, because the victim wore tight jeans, she must have assisted in their removal, thereby implying consent. In response, women of the Italian Parliament began wearing jeans to work to demonstrate their solidarity, inspiring support across the globe.
